A holiday in Calabria can not be complete without a visit to the Museum of Reggio Calabria, where the towering Bronze Statues, one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the last century.
The Bronze Statues are a pair of bronze statues of slightly larger size to true (about 2 m height), of Greek origin or Magna Graecia or Sicilians, dating from the fifth century BC and received in excellent condition.
The two statues - discovered in 1972 near Riace, near Reggio Calabria - are considered among the most important sculptural masterpieces of Greek cycle, and among the few eyewitness accounts of the great sculptors of classical greek world.
The bronzes were the National Museum of Magna Grecia in Reggio Calabria, but due to renovation works of the same museum is temporarily housed at the headquarters of the Regional Council of Calabria, Reggio always.
The Bronzes have become a symbol of the city itself.
